Another Day, Another Upgrade...

Mood: Meh
Tags: Development
Site Version: 3.01
To the surprise of no one, there were a few kinks in the 3.0 version of the site, but that's not why 3.01 is coming a day later. Actually, there is not much in the way of new features in this update, at least not for users, but there have been significant changes to the backend and administration tools which begged for an update so the database could be revised. Nothing big to see here, but there are some notable additions to the site.

Changes and Upgrades
• Changed the duration of the site version update note from 1 day to 1 hour.
• Moved the option to opt-out of the profile catchphrase feature to the User Preferences page, and moved the anonymity option to the Edit Profile page.
• Redesigned the User Preferences page to clearly delineate which features are network-wide, and which only apply to the current site.
• Added an import/reset feature to the User Preferences page. You can now copy all site-specific options from that page from any other site on the network, or reset them to their defaults. (Note that options specified in the Edit Profile page, such as chat font and color, are not affected.)
• Removed non-applicable options from the User Preferences and Edit Profile pages (such as chat-related options on sites with no chat).
• Changed the default setting for comment replies to "show thread," and revised all existing user options to this setting. The default was originally off because of how threads used to be displayed, but in the new format (which shows only comments directly leading to the comment you are replying to) it is much more manageable and I wanted to give all users a chance to see the feature in action. Feel free to turn it back off, though.
• Added a [dash] tag, which simply creates an elongated hyphen (– as opposed to -)
• Added a [user] tag, which can be used in the format [user="Talraen"] or [user name="Talraen"], either of which shows up as Talraen. If the specified user name is found, a properly formatted version will be displayed as a boldface link to that user's profile, either on the current site or (if that user is not a user of the current site) on the user's "favorite" site. (An invalid username will simply appear as plain text, with no formatting tags.)
• Added previous/next blog links to user blogs, which link to other blogs by the same user (in chronological order of creation).
• Changed user rights regarding the ability to post comments. The basic commenting right now allows you to reply to all types of content (reviews, blogs, forum threads, etc.), and there is a separate specific right for creating forum threads, and another for creating polls. This does not change any existing user's commenting rights.
• Changed the access level processing for forums. It is now possible to be given read access to a forum without posting access, or response but not new thread access, regardless of default forum rights.
• Forum moderators can now change the access levels of users on their moderated forums from the forum user list.
• Added a variety of site options and settings to allow for easier administration and some new flexible options to customize sites.
• Fixed a number of minor bugs and made some backend changes and optimizations.
